LoL Riot ID Rules and Name Change Fixes
Learn Riot ID Game Name and Tagline rules, why names are rejected, cooldown handling and fixes when the client does not update.
If a Riot ID change is rejected or does not appear in the client, check Game Name and Tagline separately. Riot ID is the identity shown in game; it does not change the username used to sign in.
Why is a name rejected?
- Game Name or Tagline may break current length or character rules.
- It may contain inappropriate, impersonating or policy-violating language.
- The selected Game Name and Tagline combination may be unavailable.
- The account's change cooldown may still be active.
- Some old region or server tags cannot be selected under the newer system.
If it does not update
Confirm that the official account page says the save succeeded, fully close Riot Client and sign in again. Make sure you did not edit another account. For an unexpected change notice or a long sync issue, contact Riot Support with a screenshot and account region.
See the Riot ID change steps and League guide hub.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can another player have the same Game Name?
Riot ID uniqueness is based on the Game Name and Tagline combination, so the visible name alone may be shared.
Why is an old server Tagline unavailable?
Some legacy region tags may be closed to new selection; the account page's eligibility result is authoritative.
