How do you play Brimstone in VALORANT? He does not have a scouting drone. His job is to block critical sightlines with Sky Smoke, accelerate the execute with Stim Beacon and delay narrow areas with Incendiary. Time smokes with team contact, keep some utility for the retake or post-plant, and use Orbital Strike to force enemies off a plant, defuse or power position rather than chasing random kills.

Brimstone's role

Brimstone is a Controller built for compact, explosive executes. Manage the timing instead of taking a meaningless solo flank, then stay close enough to trade after placing smokes. Compare roles in our VALORANT agent guide.

Ability usage

Sky Smoke

Sky Smoke drops long-lasting smokes through the tactical map within its casting range. Place the edge flush with the defender side of a choke so an enemy must expose to several angles at once. A smoke bulging into your own entrance gives defenders close-range cover. Do not spend every smoke at round start; save one when a rotate or post-plant is plausible.

Stim Beacon

Stim Beacon is quick-cast and grants Combat Stim in its area. The current stim affects firing, weapon draw, reload and spread-recovery tempo, so spray rhythm changes. Throw it just before the team turns the corner and keep basic movement and crosshair discipline; the buff does not make running shots reliable.

Incendiary

The bouncing grenade creates a lingering damage zone. Delay a choke, clear a retake corner or control the spike area briefly. Do not abandon a winnable teamfight only to wait for a memorized lineup: check player count, timer and whether the throw position is safe.

Orbital Strike

The tactical map targets a persistent high-damage strike. Deny a plant or defuse, flush a player from a confined position or break a strong setup. It does not reveal enemies or guarantee a kill. Account for escape routes and have a teammate hold the exit.

Attack plan

  1. Call the site, smoke points and execute cue.
  2. Drop smokes as the team approaches the choke, not far too early.
  3. Throw Stim Beacon just before the entry swings and sync with flash or recon.
  4. Move behind the entry at trade distance; do not stay on the tablet.
  5. After planting, layer Incendiary and the ultimate over time instead of stacking both immediately.

Smoke and dash should land together when playing with Jett; see the current Jett guide.

Defense and post-plant

Do not drop all three smokes on the first footstep. Confirm the hit, smoke the main choke and use Incendiary to buy rotation time. Pick a central position because casting range matters. On retake, isolate one defender angle and stim before the team swings. After the plant, preserve crossfires when ahead; do not detach for a lineup by default. Confirm the tap before spending all delay utility.

Common mistakes

  • Believing Brimstone has a drone, unique M249, free armor or detection device.
  • Letting smoke protrude into the team's choke.
  • Smoking long before teammates are ready.
  • Forgetting spray control under Stim.
  • Standing exposed on the tablet.
  • Stacking Incendiary and Orbital Strike with no timing plan.

Practice

In a custom game, save two smoke sets and a safe tablet position for each site. Prefer practical short and medium Incendiary bounces over fragile lineups. Use the Sova guide to coordinate information with smokes and the ultimate. Review whether your utility let the team enter safely, not only whether it earned a kill.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Brimstone beginner-friendly?
His tactical-map smokes are approachable, but correct edges, range, timing and utility conservation still require practice.
Does Brimstone have a drone?
No. His kit is Sky Smoke, Stim Beacon, Incendiary and Orbital Strike; he has no scouting drone.
What does Stim Beacon do?
It grants Combat Stim in its area, changing firing, weapon draw, reload and spread-recovery tempo.
Can Orbital Strike stop a defuse?
It can force a player out of the defuse zone with persistent high damage, but timing and escape-route coverage determine its value.
