What Does Cross Mean in VALORANT? Crosshair vs Crossfire
Cross usually means crosshair in VALORANT, but it can also mean crossing or crossfire. Learn placement, firing error, profile codes, /cc and testing.
Short answer: players saying “cross” usually mean the crosshair at screen centre. Cross is not an official setting name; in comms it can also mean an enemy crossed or a crossfire setup, so context matters.
What does the crosshair do?
It marks your view centre and aiming reference. It does not lock bullets to a target or guarantee every shot lands on the centre. Movement, firing error, recoil and weapon fire patterns affect the result.
Riot deliberately applies larger rifle error while moving. A clean crosshair cannot make long-range running Vandal or Phantom shots reliable; stop before firing and choose tap, burst or controlled spray for the range.
Crosshair placement
- Carry the reticle near likely enemy head height, not on the floor.
- Pre-aim common angles while leaving room for the opponent’s swing speed.
- Clear one threat angle at a time instead of exposing yourself to several lines.
Crosshair settings and codes
Settings → Crosshair separates Primary, ADS and Sniper Scope. Profiles can change inner/outer lines, centre dot, outline, colour, movement error and firing error. Patch 3.03 added advanced profiles; 4.05 added import/export codes; 5.04 added custom colours, independent line lengths and spectator copy with /crosshair copy or /cc.
Import a code beside Crosshair Profile, but do not call a pro code universally best. Test visibility and control for your resolution in the Range and Deathmatch.
Should movement and firing error be enabled?
The indicators can help newer players see why the reticle expands while running or spraying. Turning their animation off does not remove actual weapon error; it only changes the visual crosshair. The Shooting Error performance graph can also diagnose recent shots.
Simple test routine
- Compare stationary taps, short bursts and sprays with the same weapon in the Range.
- Check visibility against different map surfaces and Agent colours.
- In Deathmatch, prioritise head-level placement and stopping before firing; change one setting at a time across several sessions.
Pair it with the sensitivity guide, graphics guide and FPS-drop guide.
Are cross, crosshair and crossfire the same?
No. Crosshair is the reticle. Crossfire is two players holding the same target from different angles. Cross may be shorthand for either or a call that someone crossed; ask for the location if the comm is unclear.
