Fade is a VALORANT Initiator who reveals enemies, follows terror trails, and sets up space for her team. Strong Fade play chains Haunt info into Prowler pressure, cuts escape routes with Seize, and closes distance behind Nightfall. She has no required weapon, teleport, or knife ultimate.

What is Fade's role?

Fade builds close-to-mid-range info chains. Haunt reveals, its trails guide Prowlers, Seize limits movement, and Nightfall starts an execute or retake. The kit does not guarantee kills; teammates must swing on the information. Compare it with the long-range recon style in our Sova guide.

How do Fade's abilities work?

Haunt: plan line of sight

After landing, Haunt becomes an entity that reveals enemies in its line of sight and leaves terror trails behind them. Enemies can destroy it, so vary height, landing spot, and timing. Re-use the ability in flight to drop it early. Patch 11.08 set its active duration to 1.5 seconds; Patch 13.00 reduced its in-round recharge cooldown to 50 seconds. An opening Haunt can earn info, but do not throw away late-round value when nobody can act on it.

Prowler: follow a trail or clear close space

Send Prowler forward and steer it toward your crosshair. It can lock onto an enemy in its vision cone or a terror trail and chase the target; on contact it applies Nearsight. It can be shot and does not automatically find everyone behind walls. Since Patch 11.08, visibility while Nearsighted extends to 7 metres, so swing at trade distance instead of assuming the target is helpless.

  • Use Haunt first, then attach a Prowler to a trail.
  • Without a trail, manually clear a cubby, smoke, or shotgun angle.
  • Swing when the enemy turns to break the Prowler.
  • Do not dump both Prowlers into the same empty lane.

Seize: trap the escape route

Seize tethers caught enemies inside its zone, prevents a normal escape, deafens them, and applies Decay. You can drop it early in flight. It is setup utility, not a guaranteed finisher: combine it with a grenade, molly, or team swing. Aim at a confirmed choke, plant spot, or retreat path rather than a random empty area.

Nightfall: follow the ultimate

Nightfall sends a broad nightmare wave through walls. Hit enemies are marked, leave terror trails, become deafened, and receive Decay. Patch 11.08 set its width to 20 metres and Marked/Deafened duration to 8 seconds. It does not kill on its own or show permanent exact positions. Cast it as a site hit or retake begins, attach Prowlers to the trails, and move together behind the wave.

Fade on attack

  1. Land Haunt at a less predictable height and timing.
  2. Clear close corners and smokes with Prowler before the entry.
  3. Drop Seize on a retreat path or allied damage utility.
  4. After Nightfall, commit with the Duelist; sharpen the timing with our Jett guide.

Fade on defense and retake

Sometimes waiting for contact catches more attackers than an automatic barrier-drop Haunt. Use Prowler without exposing your body, lock a fast-hit choke with Seize, and avoid unnecessary repeeks with numbers advantage. Start Nightfall only when the retake team is ready. For a flash-based Initiator comparison, read our Skye guide.

Economy and composition

On low buys, keep utility for one clear stack or execute plan. Seize combines well with area damage, while fast Duelists convert Prowler and Nightfall pressure. Compare team needs in our agent selection guide.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming Fade must use an Operator.
  • Throwing Haunt at the same breakable spot every round.
  • Running alone before Prowler locks on.
  • Wasting Seize in unconfirmed space.
  • Casting Nightfall while the team is too far away.
  • Treating terror trails as permanent wallhack tracking.

Quick takeaway

Fade's sequence is info, trail, Prowler pressure, then a team swing. Chain utility on one target instead of using each piece in isolation. For cosmetics and VP, visit the VALORANT page.
