Should You Enable G-SYNC in VALORANT?

Decide whether to enable G-SYNC in VALORANT based on tearing, monitor support, FPS range and your priority between smoothness and latency.

There is no single G-SYNC answer for every VALORANT setup. G-SYNC matches a compatible monitor's refresh rate to the GPU's frame output, reducing tearing and stutter inside the display's variable-refresh-rate range. The right choice depends on your monitor, FPS and whether you prioritize smooth presentation or the lowest possible latency.

Enable G-SYNC when

  • Your NVIDIA GPU and monitor support G-SYNC or G-SYNC Compatible mode.
  • FPS often moves below the monitor's maximum refresh rate.
  • You notice tearing or uneven frame delivery.
  • You prefer a smoother image and consistent feel over uncapped peak FPS.

Consider fixed refresh when

  • Your PC holds FPS far above the monitor refresh rate and you want the lowest competitive latency.
  • Tearing does not bother you.
  • You use a monitor mode such as ULMB that cannot run with G-SYNC on that display.

How to set up G-SYNC for VALORANT

  1. Enable Adaptive Sync/G-SYNC in the monitor menu if required.
  2. Open NVIDIA Control Panel → Set up G-SYNC and enable it for the intended display.
  3. Under Manage 3D Settings, create or use the VALORANT program profile and confirm Monitor Technology is G-SYNC/G-SYNC Compatible.
  4. Select the monitor's highest supported refresh rate in Windows and VALORANT.
  5. Enable NVIDIA Reflex in VALORANT if your supported GeForce setup offers it.

FPS cap and VSync

G-SYNC works only inside its VRR range. To avoid repeatedly crossing the top boundary, many players cap FPS a few frames below the monitor's maximum refresh rate—for example, test around 141 FPS on 144 Hz or 237 FPS on 240 Hz. If you instead run uncapped far above refresh for minimum latency, G-SYNC will not control every frame.

VSync behavior changes at the top of the G-SYNC range. Do not copy a random global preset: test a per-game profile, check for tearing and latency, and keep the configuration that produces stable frametimes on your own system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does G-SYNC add exactly 1 ms of input lag in VALORANT?
There is no universal fixed 1 ms value. Latency depends on FPS, refresh rate, frame cap, VSync behavior, GPU load and the complete system.
Should esports players always disable G-SYNC?
No. Some prioritize uncapped peak FPS and fixed refresh, while others prefer tear-free, stable delivery inside the VRR range. Test both on your setup.
