Fix VALORANT Update Stuck at 90%
Fix a VALORANT update stuck at 90% by checking file activity and Riot status, restarting safely, repairing the client and collecting logs.
If a VALORANT update stays at 90%, do not assume it has failed immediately: Riot Client may still be verifying, unpacking or writing files. Watch disk and network activity for several minutes before forcing the client closed.
Work through these checks in order
- Check Riot’s official service-status page for maintenance or patch incidents.
- Confirm the installation drive has free space and is connected normally.
- If disk and network activity have stopped for a sustained period, exit Riot Client from the system tray, restart Windows and reopen the official client.
- Open the profile menu → Settings → VALORANT and use Repair if the button is available.
- Try a stable wired connection, close VPN/proxy software and restart the router.
- Install pending Windows updates. If DNS resolution appears broken, open Command Prompt and run ipconfig /flushdns, then retry.
Firewall and security
Allow only verified Riot Client, VALORANT and Vanguard executables through the firewall when they are specifically blocked. Do not disable antivirus globally or exclude the entire drive. Avoid deleting random patch folders while the client is writing files; that can turn a delayed update into a damaged installation.
Last steps
If Repair cannot finish, perform a clean reinstall using Riot’s official installer. If the fresh installation also stalls, collect logs with Riot Repair Tool and attach its ZIP to a support ticket. The exact percentage does not prove a hardware fault, so do not replace components based on the 90% number alone.
For region-compatible credit after the client works, see VALORANT Points.
