To ping in VALORANT on PC, aim at a location or item and press your Ping key, commonly Z on the default layout. Tap for a quick marker; hold the key to open the ping wheel and choose a more specific callout. Because keybinds can be changed, check Settings and search the Controls or Communication bindings if Z does nothing.

What can you mark?

  • Point at a doorway, site or angle and tap Ping to mark the location.
  • Aim at a dropped weapon or the Spike to tell teammates where the item is.
  • Hold Ping and select a wheel command such as danger, need support or watching here.
  • Open the map and place a marker for a rotation or planned push.

Riot expanded the radio command wheels with clearer strategy and command options. Remember one important current rule: pings placed directly on the map appear on the minimap, not in the 3D world. Smokes also block in-world pings, which land on the smoke instead of travelling through it.

How to change the ping key

Open Settings, go to the keybind controls and find the Communication or Ping commands. Select the current bind, press your preferred key and make sure it does not conflict with another action. Test the bind in the Range or a custom game before queueing.

Useful ranked etiquette

Use one accurate ping with a short voice or text call such as “one A Main” or “Spike down B.” Repeated spam can cover useful audio and distract teammates. For account-compatible credit, see the VALORANT Points page.
