Learn the default VALORANT ability keys C, Q, E and X, how signature and ultimate abilities work, and how to create Agent-specific keybind profiles.

On PC, VALORANT’s default ability keys are C for Ability 1, Q for Ability 2, E for Ability 3 or the signature slot, and X for the ultimate. These are input slots, not identical actions: what tapping, holding, equipping or recasting does depends on the selected Agent.

Default ability layout

  • C: Ability 1
  • Q: Ability 2
  • E: Ability 3, commonly the Agent’s signature ability
  • X: Ultimate, available after earning the required ultimate points

You do not need a separate physical item to unlock these keys. Some abilities must be purchased during the buy phase, signature abilities follow their own charge or cooldown rules, and ultimates require points. Always read the selected Agent’s ability panel.

Change keys for every Agent or one Agent

Open Settings → Controls → Actions to edit the global bindings. VALORANT also supports one keybind profile per Agent. You can copy default bindings into a profile, revert individual edits and see which other action causes a conflict. This is useful when one Agent’s hold, toggle or recast behavior feels awkward on your usual layout.

Practice before ranked

Test changes in the Range or a custom game. Make sure movement, weapon use, voice, ping and ability binds do not overlap. Build muscle memory around the slot rather than assuming every Agent’s C ability works the same. For account-compatible credit, see the VALORANT Points page.
