After the attacking team plants the Spike, defenders have a limited window to clear the site and defuse it. The source uses the default PC bind: approach the Spike and hold 4. You do not need to buy or carry a separate defuse kit.

Spike timing and control

  • The planted Spike timer is 45 seconds.
  • A complete defuse takes seven seconds.
  • Stand close enough and hold the default 4 key to begin.
  • While holding the defuse, you cannot use your weapon.

Can a teammate continue the defuse?

The original source describes a teammate continuing instead of starting over. More precisely, VALORANT uses a halfway checkpoint: once the first half is secured, a teammate can resume from that checkpoint. If the first half was not reached, progress does not stay at every exact fraction.

Because seven seconds is a long commitment in a clutch, listen for opponents and release the key when you must fight. Balance clearing the area, tapping the Spike and committing to the defuse. More guides are in the VALORANT hub.
