Which VALORANT Server Should You Play On?
Compare VALORANT servers by stable ping, jitter, packet loss, party averages and Preferred Server behavior rather than city name alone.
The best VALORANT server is the accessible lobby option that delivers low, stable ping, near-zero packet loss and a fair connection for your party. The physically closest city is a good starting point, but ISP routing can make another server steadier. Use the live lobby estimate and in-match measurements.
How to choose
- Open the server/ping list in the party lobby.
- Compare the two or three lowest estimates.
- Test them at different hours in short matches.
- Enable Network RTT and incoming/outgoing Packet Loss under Settings → Video → Stats.
- Compare average ping, spikes and loss throughout the match—not one low snapshot.
Riot's Preferred Server feature increases your chance of landing on selected servers; matchmaking means it cannot guarantee one every game.
Stable ping beats a lucky low number
A connection holding 35 ms can play better than one showing 20 ms but spiking to 80–100 ms. Ping is round-trip time, jitter is how much it varies, and packet loss means traffic never arrives. Low ping does not cancel packet loss. Use the ping troubleshooting guide to split these metrics.
Choosing for a party
Do not optimize only for the leader. Compare every player's estimates and choose a compromise that does not leave one teammate on extreme latency. Available servers are constrained by account region/shard; the setting is not a free global region switch.
Why city lists age badly
Riot can add data centers or change availability. Patch 11.04, for example, added Manila to the Asia Pacific shard. Treat the current lobby list as authoritative.
VPN and DNS myths
A VPN may change a poor route but can also add distance, ping or loss. DNS does not automatically shorten live game routing, and a faster plan alone does not guarantee good peering or low jitter.
Pick the candidate with near-zero loss, limited spikes and the best party balance. For ranked context see the ranked-system guide.
