What Is Entry in VALORANT? Entry Frag and Trade Guide
Learn entry, entry frag and first contact in VALORANT. Improve utility timing, site execution, trade spacing, Spike safety and round-impact review.
Short answer: entry is the round responsibility of taking risky first contact, disrupting defensive crosshair and utility setups, and creating playable space for the execute. It is not an official Agent class; it describes first-contact and space-taking duty.
Entry, entry frag and first contact
- Entry: clears close angles through the choke and forces defenders to react.
- Entry frag: the first useful kill during the hit; the entry does not have to secure first blood every round.
- First contact: the player positioned to meet the enemy first.
- Second entry/trader: follows at tradeable spacing, covers a different angle and converts the first player's death.

Is entry only a Duelist job?
No. Riot has described Duelists as the tip of the spear for taking team space, and movement, escape or duel tools can support that job. Entry is still not a separate role in Agent Select, and a Duelist should not automatically dry swing first.
A clean hit combines roles: the Controller blocks sight lines, the Initiator pressures or checks close angles, the entry moves on time and the second player prepares the trade. Riot's beginner guide likewise highlights how distinct Agent duties make a site hit easier.
A simple execute sequence
- Plan: call the site, choke, first clear and abort condition.
- Setup: confirm smokes, info and entry utility; do not leave alone too early.
- Contact: clear close, split defender crosshairs and isolate a duel where possible.
- Trade: follow close enough to respond without feeding both players into one spray.
- Convert: fill the gained space, cut rotations and make the plant safe.

Does dying mean failed entry?
Not by itself. If the death is instantly traded, pulls key utility, turns two defender angles and lets the team establish on site, it can have round value. Dying in the choke before utility, separating from the trader or giving up newly created space has low impact.
Review first deaths, tradeability, plant access, supporting utility and whether the team kept the space—not only K/D. Separate round impact from rating through the Elo, MMR and RR guide.
Should entry carry the Spike?
There is no official ban. However, a first-contact death can drop the Spike in defender vision, so many defaults put it on a safer second-wave player. A fake, fast plant or specific Agent plan may call for something else.
Practice routine
- Rehearse two paths per map with pathing and crosshair placement.
- Use a short utility countdown instead of dry swinging.
- After each death ask whether a trade was possible, space was gained and teammates could follow.
- State your entry/flex expectations and Agent pool when using the LFT guide.
